Dry Skin Relief throughout the Year

by Martha Fitzharris

Dry skin can be quite problematic. It is usually susceptible to rashes, irritation and redness. It can also get worse with seasonal changes.

Each season comes with its own set of problems. Winter wind and cold air draw out the moisture from your skin. While the summer months mean that you'll be exposed to more pool time, which in essence means you'll have more contact with irritating substances such as chlorine.

Caring of Dry Skin during the Winter

Skin care products, like skin moisturizers, are your best ally during the winter. However, they aren't the only option you have. In fact, you may have found a great moisturizer, but if you maintain certain bad habits you may still suffer from dry skin.

For example, applying your moisturizer to dry skin won't be as effective as having applied it to damp skin. Another habit that can produce dry skin is spending too much time in the shower, especially if you're using hot showers. It is important to shower for no more than a few minutes with warm water.

To cleanse your face, use a cream cleanser. Soapy cleansers are the worst choice for dry skin. The soapy nature of the cleanser will dry out and irritate your skin while the water you need to lather up will take some of your skin's moisture with it as it evaporates.

The following tips will help provide dry skin relief during the winter. Stay away from open flames and fireplaces. Use a humidifier and moisturizing products (such as rose hip oil) to alleviate irritation and tightness.
